Francis B. Kelly has been schooled in medicine, theology, and bioethics. Theology and bioethics occupy the sphere of thought. While some things can be taught, other things are best learned through experience. Schooling provides knowledge; understanding comes from practice. Medicine is a practice. Dr Kelly has spent over three decades practising medicine as a general practitioner in rural and urban settings prior to over 11 years in the Office of Clinical Trials at Health Canada. In all settings the primary focus was to serve the patient - directly in clinical practice or indirectly is reviewing applications for clinical trial research by industry and academia. Both relate to medicine as a practice. It is through practice that knowledge becomes relevant.
The centre of medcine is the patient as person. The centre of bioethics is the person. Contrary to the common view the centre of theology is also the person. Man as anthrōpos is a religious being with 'religion' understood as re ligare which carries the sense of 'belonging to'. Thus, man can 'belong to' anything. Culture is created in every contact with others. It is here that what we 'belong to' is manifested.
But cultures are susceptible to division. The publications presented here name and address divisions in different cultures. This is done in the service of the culture in which division is present. Since every culture is situated in a wider culture, naming and addressing division serves the whole and not just the parts. The intent of the publications is to be of public service in fostering culture. Since culture is dynamic this is an on-going undertaking.
The works presented here are self-published. Since book retailers tend to avoid self-published works, these publications are not available in bookstores. They will be available at this website in the coming weeks.
The 'Products' section has a brief description of each publication available for download at no charge.
